Oshkosh has been a blast so far and we really haven’t had much time to update. Wednesday started with the Warbirds in Review presentation with Col. Bud Anderson and Jack Rousch.
It was incredibly interesting and I got the chance to meet Jack and have my picture taken with him. Awesome! We spent most of the morning and the first part of the afternoon going through the warbirds section. We saw everything from T-28’s to P-51’s to T-34’s and took lots of pictures. We had lunch on field and then started walking the homebuilt section until we had to run to the AOPA tent at 2 pm to meet some friends. The airshow started at 3 pm and was pretty good. A really nice F7F Bearcat flew in the mock air-race to open the show. That was amazing! The new Eclipse Personal Jet concept flew and it was exciting to be a part of that. We ended the day with dinner at Red Robin and an after-dinner drink at Starbucks.
Day 2 started with rain and lots of it. We were just coming back from the showers as it started to pour. Luckily, the shower was short and we then headed into the grounds about 9 am. We spent most of Thursday in the vintage and showplane areas and actually managed to see just about everything. In the afternoon, we hit some of the buildings looking for a new headset for Stacy. We also decided that our first plane will likely be a Piper Tri-Pacer. Now we just have to find one we like! We didn’t watch much of the airshow yesterday and headed back to clean up for dinner at 4 pm. We did dinner out at Applebees and then more Starbucks. It rained like heck for most of the night, but we managed to stay dry.
It’s now Friday morning and I’m sitting here with my Pop-Tart and milk while Stacy has her coffee. Today will be spent going through the homebuilt section and doing some shopping.
It’s supposed to be a gorgeous day and it’s starting out great. Tonight we might go over to the RAPCO house for steaks, but we’ll have to wait and see. Tomorrow we’ll get up and pack down our stuff. Then we’ll head in for some last minute looking around and check-out by noon.
It’s been a great few days and, despite the crummy weather at times, we’ve had a really good time. We’ve seen a lot, learned a lot, and even met some new friends. All to quickly it will all be over and it’s another 365 days until we do it all again next year. I love Oshkosh!
“I’m leavin’ on a jet plane…don’t know when I’ll be back again.”
Well, we made it to Oshkosh, but Camp Schoeller is packed! We’re in Row #1 way at the end about 10 spaces down from where we were last year. I didn’t think we could get any farther away, but I was wrong. Oh well, we have a very nice campsite (pictures to come) and the weather is beautiful. The coolest part is that EAA introduced Wi-Fi access for the whole grounds this year. So here I am sitting at my campsite at Airventure 2007 blogging away. Technology rules. This means we should be able to post updates each day along with
